The most beautiful sights of West Iceland are featured in this popular day tour.
We drive through Hvalfjörður fjord to the Borgarfjörður District where we visit Deildartunguhver, Europe’s most powerful hot spring. Further inland, we visit waterfalls Hraunfossar and Barnafossar and make our way through the Húsafell woodlands.
At Húsafell, we leave the main road in our super jeep for a highland trail to Iceland’s second largest ice field, Langjökull Glacier. We take a guided tour 200 meters into the glacier and 40 meters under it into a man-made ice cave, bringing the exploration to a whole new dimension.
On our way back to Reykjavík, we drive through the Kaldidalur Desert Valley, Iceland’s highest mountain track and on to Þingvellir National Park. The park, known for its exceptional beauty and its geological and historical importance, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates can be seen separating from each other. It is also where the world’s oldest continually running parliament, Alþingi, was founded in AD 930.
We recommend you bring: Warm & wind proof clothing in addition to good, waterproof hiking boots, snacks and a camera.
